About Us
Northern Illinois Radio Club (NIRC for short) was formed in May 2014 by 4 McHenry County based radio amateurs. We were offically licensed by the FCC on 06/03/2014 and assigned callsign KD9BKM.
NIRC is a somewhat exclusive club, meaning that we aren't for everyone. Our club loves working with technology facets that enhance the ham radio hobby. That means experimenting with digital modes, interfacing radios with VoIP software / hardware (AllStar, DMR, Echolink, IRLP, etc...), tinkering with electronics and embedded computing devices (Arduino, BeagleBone Black, Raspberry Pi, etc...), and more. We are not specifically a DX club, repeater club, or crybaby club. Neither do we cater to easily offended / close minded individuals.
